It seems the idea for using ships as a theme for beer names is popular. We are about to release our third in the series, this one being a chestnut brown brew by the name of 'Vanguard'. The ship chosen, HMS Vanguard was launched just after the end of WWII, and was the last (and largest) Battleship to serve in the Royal Navy. Whilst I am sure it is right the such ships are no longer needed, I can't help thinking that a sod-off sized Naval ship akin to the things the US Navy has floating around the world would do National Pride a bit of good. Indeed a ship the size of Dorset would befit our naval heritage down to a tee.
On a similar vein, the next shipping beer will be an old 'Ironclad' from the 1800's that very nearly survived long enough to be preserved, but was scrapped in the 1960's. Why do we seem so keen to throw away our heritage and history? Is this why we blunder back into making old mistakes? Next thing you'll know we'll be encouraging folk to start borrowing more money to recover from a 'recession' caused by folk borrowing too much money....
